This article describes how I got started and changed my point of view from one of a consumer to an entrepreneur. It is part I of a multipart story
In the year 2000 my family and I were living, what we thought was, the American dream. We owned our home, two new cars, lots of stuff, and had 3 kids. We were a young family starting out, and life was good. I was making 6 times what I was making when we got married and had a secure job with a large retail corporation.
One-day layoffs came. I was one of the fortunate and kept my job. My co-worker, and friend did not. It really made me think. What if that was me? What would happen to my family? I quickly realized that I didn't own anything accept the paper that promised loads of my future income to others. I didn't own my home the bank did. I didn't own my cars the bank did. If my income stream was interrupted I would loose it all and have to move in with my in-laws or my parents. That was unacceptable.
Since that day my family and I have changed our view on life. I found out how to pay off all of our debt and retire at an early age with all the money we would need to live the REAL American dream. I know what you are saying…. “He found the perfect product and will be the next Bill Gates.” “Here we go he wants to sell me something.” The fact is, my financial situation has not changed. I didn’t find anything new and exciting. I am not selling you anything.
My financial situation didn’t change. My two friends and I owned a consulting business and I was using that business and counting on that income as well as the income from my full time Job. All together I was making about $84,000 / year. Many of you would love to make this kind of money I know. But, when you are financially unwise in your decisions like my wife and I we still were living paycheck to paycheck. We often thought of how comfortable we would be if we didn’t have so much debt.
I just upped the work I was doing a bit and got enough money to pay a little extra on my bills so that I could be out of debt in about 10 years. I would also be able to retire at that time. Well, a few months after the first layoffs my business partner lost his job. That cut my income about $12,000/yr right off the top. He was working the business full time now and there was just not enough to do.
I started to think and read books about how to change my financial situation. I was now sort about $800 a month. How did we keep going? Read the “One Minute Millionaire” by Robert G. Allen and Mark Victor Hansen and you will understand. (If you want a copy just send me an email. I can get it for you for $9.95. Email me at gwill23@opportunityone.biz). Anyway, what was I going to do this short every money? I can feel my stomach tensing up just thinking about it.
I read the book “Multiple Streams of Income” by Robert G. Allen. This book opened my eyes to the possibility of diversifying my income. But, how can you work 3 or 4 40 hour a week jobs? It’s impossible! Well, I realized that it was through the magic of residual income. (If you want to see a special report from Robert G. Allen on this subject just go to http://www.whyresidualincome.com/opportunityone. After you get past the first page there is a copy of his free report).
Since reading that book I have read many more by Robert G. Allen and many of his colleagues. I have also become a protégé of Robert’s and work with many of his millionaire friends on a regular basis. I am a part of Robert’s Multiple Streams of Income team in a business called USANA http://www.whyresidualincome.com/opportunityone. I also work with his team on creating income from the Internet, real estate, stock market, and infopreneuring.
It is a good thing that I started into these streams of income because on Jan 30, 2003 I lost my job. Yep you guest it they closed the department down. Now I use these streams of income full time. I love every minute of it. They have not replaced my income yet but they are well on their way. This is why I am so qualified to help you. I am not a millionaire. I haven’t forgot what it is like to have no money. I am just like you and if you follow my lead we will all make it through this. But, please don’t try anything that I do until I have told you that it is successful. Let me fail first that way only one of us looses money J.
Currently as I said, I am a real estate investor, working in a business called USANA (http://www.whyresidualincome.com/opportunityone), starting this newsletter, and still working in my consulting business from time to time. As we go along I will let you know how each of these streams makes me money. I will also share with you any other steams I may be starting.
This newsletter is just going to keep you up to date on what I am doing and where I am at. If I try an opportunity and fail you will know. If I succeed you will know. You will also know why I succeeded or failed. I will share with you what I learn and how I learned it. If you can learn from my failures as well then the failures are worth it.
