How to Design a Site that Sells
by: Caterina Christakos

How to make sure your site will be profitable from day one
Before you even think about designing your online business you have to know if there is a market for your product or service. Thinking that you have a great idea is all well and good but if the buying population doesn't agree with you, your time and money will be wasted.

Here are some simple ways to predetermine which online business to build and promote:

1) Do a profitability scan on your subject's key words. How many times are those words searched on the internet each month and how many sites are you competing against?

2) Is there a niche within your subject that hasn't been covered yet? It is easier to be the profitability leader of a small niche, like refinancing mortgages, than to try to be the #1 site for the entire real estate field.

3) Create free surveys that ask your potential customers what they want out of your good or service.

4) Give away free samples in return for feedback. A free 30 day download is always appreciated, as are free ebooks and a free coaching session. Pick something that is appropriate for your business.

Whatever methods you choose, make sure that you test and retest your business idea and have a business plan before choosing your domain name and spending a ton of money on your site. A little caution and research in the beginning can save a ton of grief later on.
